|photographs, drawings, paintings, and digital images of Japan's knotted loincloth!|
the fundoshi is a single strip of soft, thin fabric, about 8 feet long and 1 foot wide, that is wrapped around the waist and between the legs to form a secure, comfortable loincloth. Despite visual similarities to underwear, fundoshi are considered "full dress" for many winter festivals, for swimming, or for farming. Fundoshi have been in use in Japan for over 1,000 years.|
